It wasn’t so much that I’d forgotten how much they like hockey here as … well, I guess it’s just that I hadn’t thought about it for a while. Last night was a reminder. They were going all night, the “Whoo-hoos!”

Around ten last night, I was watching the old 1930 movie Morocco. There they were, Marlene Deitrich and Gary Cooper, romance was in the air, and it was punctuated by the oddest background sounds, strange cries of, “Ooooiiilllll-errrrrrrrsss!

Yes, long after the Edmonton Oilers had defeated the Detroit Red Wings to move on to the second round, fans were still outside yelling, “Oilers!”

Down south, the Calgary Flames are struggling with the Anaheim Ducks. I’m hoping Anaheim wins because I don’t relish the potential noise level where I live if we get a Battle of Alberta. Really, they get quite fanatical around here. Alberta loves hockey, and they love the two cities battling.

I do too but it makes for poor sleeping conditions.

Meanwhile. In Detroit, I noticed the Free Press headline, “THE BITTER END: Wings blow lead, waste great regular season.” And I had to laugh when I read the sentence, “They lost because once again, a younger, scrappier, lower-seeded team from some place out west mucked up the middle of the ice.

“Some place out west.” Yes, that narrows it down. Oh well, at least I know where I am.

What a battle that would be though…there’s nothing better than a good rivalry.

    Congrats man!

I’m hoping that the black and orange can force a game 7 tonight.
