Yesterday was as dull and gloomy as it has been for quite some time. As many people elsewhere sweltered with the summer heat, in the Alberta part of the world we had a cool blip, complete with rain and apathy.

As a consequence, I lost my mind after spending the morning in my ongoing torment - attending to personal finances.

By the way … I meant to mention off the top: ignore this post. It is filled with the banal. It is me musing on irrelevant matters between doing the various things I’m doing today.

Anyway, back to my lost mental abilities … I decided to stroll downtown. I made my way to 109th Street, where I rambled till I came upon a store that sold DVDs. This is where I lost my senses.

I bought:

- Grey’s Anatomy (First Season)
- Curb Your Enthusiasm (Fifth Season)
- Northern Exposure (Fourth Season)

What was I thinking? Well, I know what I was thinking but … that’s all a bit pricey. Still … Curb Your Enthusiasm is my favourite comedy. Largely because Larry David is so appalling … and Cheryl Hines is cute as a button.

Speaking of cute as a button … Do you remember Janine Turner in Northern Exposure? I always liked that show (humour again). It’s also interesting seeing it now. As I recall, it was unusual at the time for its humour, though every show does it now (Grey’s Anatomy?) … that business of wildly quirky people. Interesting, too, is how different the pacing is from today’s comedy/drama shows on TV, even in the roughly ten or so years since it was on air. Must be the crystal meth influence in Hollywood.

Well, I suppose I won’t be picking up any new DVDs for a while. And at least I know now that when I watch TV over the next little while it will be something I actually want to see (and not another freakin’ reality show).

I’ve been eying those first three seasons … I just have a reluctance over the price. But I always loved that show too and I expect I’ll eventually get the whole thing on DVD. Fourth season rocks too!

I, too, love Northern Exposure. It’s the characters..which of course is the writing..but they all mesh well with their craziness. One of the best shows on television, ever.
