The only resolution I have for the new year is not to have any resolutions. It’s just pointlessly discouraging to look back at year’s end on the list of things you didn’t do, accomplish, achieve and so on.

Much better to look at the things done that were not anticipated or planned. Such as chucking your life over the side of the boat and embarking on an entirely new one. Which is sort of what I did at the end of 2006.

Moving east was not in the plans at the beginning of the year. Yet it’s really the only significant thing that happened to me last year.

I like it that way.

But that was then and this is now. Last night we brought in the New Year with champagne, poetry and cribbage. Not a likely combination but an amusing one.

And yes, we had a kind of poetry contest – the subject was a torn flag.

Oh yes, and there was prime rib and wine in there somewhere. Along the line there was also some dope from which I may have taken one too many puffs. I seem to recall speaking at one point and having a difficult time aligning the words in a grammatical flow with comprehensible articulation.

Anyway … Now it’s 2007 and really, at this point, all I look forward to is getting into my new house.

(Did I mention anywhere I bought a sofa and loveseat yesterday?)
