New favourite music - women again
February 23rd, 2007 by Bill
All the music I like these days seems to be by women: Patty Griffin, Lucinda Williams, and now Amy Winehouse.
Not that the styles of these three women are even remotely similar.
I downloaded Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black the other day and I can’t get enough of it. She’s kind of in the soul-R&B-jazz vein and on this particular collection she seems to be channeling girl groups from the 60s. And it’s fabulous. It’s also kind of funny.
Whereas back in the sixties you’d get lyrics like, “He’s so fine, wish he were mine,” here you get things like, “I don’t wanna go to rehab, no, no, no.”
Well, I found it funny (in a culturally worrisome kind of way.)
Anyway … thanks to Briana for pointing out Amy Winehouse to me.

Glad you like it!
i love that line! i’m totally gonna check her out!
(word verification = aqztawt … ass twat?)
Thanks again Bree … still loving it.
Marisa - I think you’ll like it. The word verification is another thing altogether.
Stumbled on by (thanks to the link from Self Styled Siren) and it turns out those are the three women I am listening to as well - and got the Amy Winehouse cd “Frank”. I also have Katie Melua in my current female vocalist playlist. Have fun.
I’ll lend an ear to Katie Melua and see what she’s like. I’ve also had my eye on Winehouse’s “Frank” as well. Probably be adding it to the collection soon.
